Louisiana Legalizes Alcohol Delivery to Home

Louisiana Governor, John Bel Edwards, has signed two bills into law that legalize the home delivery of alcoholic beverages.

One bill, authored by Representative Thomas Carmody, allows for the delivery of beer and wine, but not hard liquor.  Customers will be able to order beer or wine from a restaurant when they order their food and have it delivered to them.  Unfortunately, the bill does not allow for hard liquor or any type of specialty drink.

Someone asked me if I can order fajitas and a margarita, but that’s not what the bill provides,” said Carmody.

However, Edwards did sign another bill into law that does allow for the delivery of hard liquor from liquor retailers.  So, your favorite spirits store will now be able to hire a delivery person and bring it right to your door.

There are some restrictions:

  1. The customer must have a valid ID.

  2. The customer cannot already be intoxicated.

  3. The customer must sign the receipt.
