Duson Police Department adds a new officer who just so happens to be an 8-year-old boy. Instead of fighting crime he’ll be using that badge to fight cancer.
Eight year-old Camden Barnard was diagnosed with Acute Lymphobastic Leukemia this past September. He’s been undergoing treatment ever since. His bravery to fight cancer is exactly what the Duson Police wants more of on their force.

Chief Kip Judice sees the battle Barnard is up against and wanted to encourage him the best way he could, through the police force.
“Often times we are asked to call upon our strength and our wisdom to get through a battle with bad guys and so Camden has an opportunity to use those powers so be it to battle his leukemia.”
Though Barnard’s department is not crime, he believes he’s the man for the job when it comes to cracking his cancer case. Barnard says, “I’m better at that kind.”
He’s as official as it gets, even when it comes down to his utility belt. Duson Police is making sure he is well equipped for what might come his way. Barnard “I have gloves, band aids, a flash light hand sanitizer, lotion.”
This kind gesture means the world to not only Camden Barnard, but his father Pat Barnard. “We’ve seen him on days where he doesn’t look like this when he’s down and out and it’s hard as a parent to see your child like that so today is a great day. It really is.”
The day also serves as a reminder that they aren’t alone in this fight for Camden’s life.
Pat Barnard says, “I’m Cajun to my toes to my head and that means a whole lot more than just eating good and Mardi Gras to me it’s a community and not being scared to ask others for help and man I can’t tell you how much this community has helped us.”
