Another Lafayette Native Could Be a UFC Champion

Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier will be fighting for the UFC Lightweight Title this Saturday night.

Lafayette, Louisiana is already home to one of the best Mixed Martial Arts fighters of all time, current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Daniel “D.C.” Cormier.  Cormier, also known as the “Champ-Champ” actually held the Heavyweight and Light-Heavyweight titles at the same time, but recently voluntarily dropped the Light-Heavyweight title so that he could focus on defending the Heavyweight title.

Now, Dustin Poirier, also a Lafayette native, has a chance to become the UFC Lightweight Champion this Saturday night (April 13, 2019.)  Poirier boasts a record of 24-5-1 and is known as a very exciting fighter, winning multiple “Fight of the Year” awards.  The 10-year veteran formally trained under retired UFC fighter and Lafayette native, “Crazy” Tim Credeur.

It’s safe to say, there must be something in the water in Lafayette.

UFC 236 is Saturday, April 13 and available exclusively as a Pay-Per-View event on ESPN+.
