ABC will be remaking certain episodes of “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” with a live special.
The 90-minute live airing will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear, the latter being the creator of the original sitcoms. “All in the Family,” originally starring Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton, aired for 9-seasons on CBS from 1971-1979. It’s spin-off, “The Jeffersons” is one of the longest running sitcoms in television history. The show starred Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford and ran for 11-seasons on CBS from 1975-1985. Both shows covered controversial social subject matter.
Woody Harrelson has been selected to play Archie Bunker of “All in the Family” with Marisa Tomei playing Edith. Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes will play George and “Weezie” Jefferson, respectively.
The rest of the cast will include: Will Ferrell, Ellie Kemper, Justina Machado, and more to be announced.
