Motorists Concerned About Verot School Rd. and Vincent Road Intersection

From NEWS15,

The intersection at Verot School and Vincent Rd. in south Lafayette has been known to cause headaches for motorists which is why State Representative Stuart Bishop and DOTD District Engineer Bill Oliver had a public meeting to address the issue.

Frank Domingue has driven through that intersection daily for the last twenty years

“I still see accidents that happen there. I think the new road is going to help.” said Domingue.

Domingue adds he sees why some say are saying that traversing the area has gotten worse since DOTD finished constructing the new intersection

“It’s a smoother road which allows people to go faster so when they go faster. Accidents can happen. I want to see what options we have right now.” said Domingue.

Oliver explained the design of the intersection was based on environmental and traffic studies and the traffic flow projections.

For Bishop, discussing the traffic issues at the intersection is a healthy conversation.

“You know growing a lot of towns, a lot of communities would love to have the growing pains that Lafayette has and we have to address them. Tonight, we are going to take the first step in addressing some of those growing pains on some of the new construction that we’ve done.” said Bishop.

Domingue says he is hoping that they find a solution to the congestion and high amount traffic crashes that happen in the area.

“They’ve obviously constructed something that they think will work but we are not all convinced that it will work so let’s see if a traffic light is needed and let’s see if what we built is suitable.” said Domingue.

A feasibility study in the area to see if a traffic light or roundabout would be the best possible solution can’t be conducted until construction on Verot School Road is finished.

DOTD previously announced that’s not expected to happened for another month or two and adding the earliest Lafayette Consolidated Government would conduct a traffic study for the area is in the fall.
