Langlinais had been mayor since 1991 and to say goodbye, family and friends put on a roast at WalksOns to let him know how they feel.
“Watching Charlie govern is like making sausage(crowd laughs). You don’t want to see it made but it tastes pretty damn good when it’s done.” said former councilman and cousin of Langlinais.
As his time as mayor draws to a close, Langlinais never thought he lead the city of Broussard for as long as he did in fact he almost resigned in the middle of his first term
“There’s been bumps in the road sometimes but overall it’s good. Sometimes I get into a fight when I had to get into fights but most of the time we all got along.” said Langlinais.
However, he kept trucking on and many in Broussard are thankful he did.
“As a Langlinais, I want to tell him that I’m so proud of him.” said Angel Langlinais Greer, his sister.
“So Charlie I want to thank you for assisting and promoting all of the businesses that come into Broussard do business with the local people that means a lot.” said David Bernard, friend of Langlinais.
A tinge of wistfulness envelops him as he reflects on some of the largest projects he oversaw such as connecting Ambassador Caffery to Hwy 90, St. Julien Park and the construction of Albertson Parkway.
“It keeps flashing like a dream that actually happened and how blessed we are.” said Langlinais.
The city of Broussard also said goodbye to councilman Johnnie Foco who served for 18 years.
