Ravens the Only Team Brees Has Not Beat

Drew Brees has made history this season, surpassing Peyton Manning as the league’s All Time Passing Leader in yardage.  This Sunday afternoon, when the New Orleans Saints travel to play the Baltimore Ravens, Brees has a chance to make history once again as one of the only NFL QBs in history to beat all 32-teams.  Only Brett Favre and Peyton Manning have done it before.

It won’t be easy.  The Baltimore Ravens absolutely own the Saints.  In the 6 games played between the two, since the Ravens franchised entered the league in 1996, Baltimore has beaten New Orleans 5-times.  The Saints’ only win was back in 2002.  New Orleans has since lost 3-straight to the Ravens.  Part of the reason has been Baltimore’s use of the 3-4  base defense.  The 3-4 keeps the opposing quarterback guessing if and from where the blitz is coming.  While Brees has been outstanding versus most backfield coverage, the linebacker blitz has been a thorn in his side.  Blitzing linebackers doesn’t sacrifice the coverage and, with the 3-4, it keeps both the quarterback and his lineman guessing on where it’s going to come from.  The Ravens have blitzed quite often in most of their games and it only takes a few pressure plays to make a difference.

But, the Saints are hot.  They’ve blown their last two opponents out the water and headed into the bye week with a 4-1 record, despite having first string RB Mark Ingram for the first 4-games.  Ingram has allowed the offense to chew up more clock and allowed the defense to not only rest, but be more active in their pass rush.  The offensive line has been impressive and Brees, not only shattered records, but still hasn’t thrown an interception.  He’s the only starting quarterback in the NFL to have not thrown an interception this season.

Something has got to give.  Does Brees finally have a bad game, gives up a bunch of turnovers, and the Ravens put out the fire of a hot Saints team?  Or does #9 continue to establish himself among the greats, beat the ‘Baltimore Bug-A-Boo’, and become one of only 3 quarterbacks in NFL history to beat all 32 teams?

We’ll find out Sunday afternoon as the (4-1) New Orleans Saints travel to play the (4-2) Baltimore Ravens at 3:05pm on FOX.  The Ravens are favored by -2.5.
