Daniel Cormier is the Champ-Champ!

(UFC – Facebook)

Lafayette, Louisiana native, Daniel “DC” Cormier made history Saturday night with a Knock Out victory over former UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic at 4:33 of the very first round.  Cormier was already the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion and had moved up in weight class for the challenge.  DC currently holds 2 belts and is only the 2nd fighter in UFC history to do so simultaneously.  I made my case in a previous article about why this victory should make Cormier the Greatest of All Time.

The victory came with an overhand right and a few follow-up shots that forced the referee to call an end to the contest.  In a post-fight interview, Cormier admitted to seeing something on film and baited his opponent into being vulnerable to an overhand right during a bit of grappling.  Shortly after the fight, Daniel Cormier called out former UFC Heavyweight Champion and WWE Superstar, Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar had been in talks with the UFC for months concerning his return to fighting.  When the cameras panned the audience and showed him at cage-side before the fight, there was little doubt that he was going to be challenging the winner.  With DC being a pro wrestling fan and Brock Lesnar being the entertainer he is, they certainly put on a post fight show to begin hyping the future match.  UFC President, Dana White, confirmed that Lesnar will be Cormier’s next Heavyweight opponent.

However, before Cormier fights Lesnar, he said he aims to defend his Light-Heavyweight Title.  In the meantime, Lesnar will have to go through 6-months of tests from USADA to make sure he’s not on any performance enhancers or any other substance banned by the UFC.  Cormier plans to retire in the Spring of 2019.
