Following Tom Petty’s death on Monday Oct. 2nd, his music experienced huge increases in sales, streams and airplay, as fans mourned the singer-songwriter.
According to Nielsen Music, based on initial U.S. sales reports for Oct. 2 and 3, Petty’s total music sales grew 6,781 %, as compared to the two previous days (Sept. 30 and Oct. 1).
