An alleged gunman, Nikolas Cruz, 19, accused of killing at least 17 people when he opened fire at a Florida high school, sending panicked students running into the streets to flee the gunfire, was charged Thursday(2/15/18) with 17 counts of premeditated murder, according to officials.
Nikolas arrived at Broward County Jail early Thursday morning after local and federal investigators asked him questions. He was a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, was taken into custody “without incident” Wednesday (2/14/18) by Coconut Creek police in a Coral Springs neighborhood, a few miles from the school.
A motive behind the massacre is not immediately clear, Officials suggested the shooting may have been planned. A News Conference is expected for 10:30am EST today (Thursday). Nikolas Cruz is also expected to make his first court appeared on 12:30 p.m. EST today (Thursday)
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

(Reuters) – Deputies in Broward County, Florida, were responding on Wednesday to reports of an active shooter at a high school in the town of Parkland, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School had been placed on a “code red” lockdown but had no information on victims, the spokeswoman said.
Local FOX-10 TV reported that five people were seen being treated by paramedics while other students were filing out of the school in a line.
Parkland is about 15 miles (24 km) west of Fort Lauderdale.

Today, close to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s dismissal, students and staff heard what sounded like gunfire. The school immediately went on lockdown but is now dismissing students. We are receiving reports of possible multiple injuries. Law enforcement is on site.
